Dish gardens are easy to make at home. All you need to start are the following supplies:<\p>
- A container. Choose a wide, shallow container with no drainage hole in the bottom. You don't want to ruin your table or surface!
- Plants. Succulents and cacti are perfect for most dish gardens. They are slow-growing, beautiful, and drought-tolerant. Don't worry too much about particular species at first-just pick the ones that look the best!
- Gravel. Succulents and cacti can't tolerate wet roots. You'll use gravel to create a "drainage layer" on the bottom of the container so the plants aren't sitting in water.
- Potting media. Use a high-quality potting mix, preferably one with excellent drainage that's designed for cacti and succulents.
